We Were Here Too is Total Mayhem Game's sequel to its online co-op puzzle game, We Were Here. The sequel expands on the mystery and escape room style of the first game while continuing to test players' communication and skill. As with the first game, there are multiple puzzles to be solved and two different possible perspectives to play the game from.

The overall objective of We Were Here Too is to find the way out of an abandoned castle. The two perspectives that players can take this time around are that of a Lord and his Peasant. Just like in the last game, there are achievements for each player to unlock. However, the puzzles this time around are even more complex.

As the Lord in We Were Here Too, players will need to flip a number of levers throughout their journey to unlock the castle doors. Players should keep this in mind as they enter the first room of the game.

How to Escape the Castle in We Were Here Too

In the first puzzle room of We Were Here Too, the Lord will come across three red symbols under the floor that needs to be relayed to the Peasant. Once the other player has solved the puzzle involving those symbols, the lever room will unlock. Above the three coffins should be another set of symbols to be relayed to the Peasant. This will unlock the door to the next room. This is just the beginning of the game's emphasis on communication, much like other asymmetrical multiplayer games.

There are three co-op puzzles in the second room ofWe Were Here Too. The first involves a book in the middle of the room that shows candles set in a specific array. The Peasant must light the candles in the order the book has them arranged, so careful communication between players is key. When the Peasant succeeds, the symbols on the banner in the Lord's room will begin to glow. These must also be described to the Peasant so they can solve the puzzle that will open this room's lever door. Once the lever has been switched, the Lord should go behind the book with the candles and describe the last set of symbols from right to left. Finally, the Lord must travel through a series of chambers with wooden cubes that host triangular signs. It is up to the Peasant this time to tell the Lord the position these cubes should be placed in on an altar in each chamber.

The lever in the third room isn't blocked by any puzzles and can be pulled without delay. Further into the room, there are knights holding weapons and shields. The Lord should describe these to the Peasant, as well as the symbols over their heads. The Peasant will complete the puzzle that opens the gate to the next room.

The final lever is at the entrance of the fourth room and to the right. After flipping it, the Lord ofWe Were Here Too should describe the stained glass windows in the room to the Peasant in the order they appear. Once the Peasant solves this puzzle, a chess-like game set up on a table to the room's left will activate. The Peasant will relay instructions on how the Lord should guide the pawn safely across the board. There will be some sound cues and, when the chessboard drops into the table, the door will open. For a moment, The Lord will be able to see their Peasant from a balcony. They will be stuck in a maze and will require the Lord's directions to get through it. This puzzle is especially tense with the sudden change in music and tone, giving the game a horror-esque feel to it, a la Inscryption.

In the fifth room, a gate with symbols will separate the Lord and the Peasant. The two will need to work together to make the symbols on both sides of the game align. Once this is done, the Lord can unlock the room with the lever, using the same combination as the gates.

Finally, it's time to leave the castle of We Were Here Too via an elevator. But there are more levers to pull first. One is located in the room to the left of the entry to the elevator chamber. Another waits on the top floor, near the exit. The last is at the bottom of the elevator shaft - drop onto the roof of the elevator to see it as the elevator descends. With all levers pulled, The Lord and Peasant - teammates, partners in crime, player 1 and player 2, the only characters in the game to get attached to - can ride the elevator to the top floor, where they will see the gateway to freedom. Or, if the Lord does not pull all the levers, one player has to stay behind to steer the wheel at the bottom of the elevator shaft while the other player escapes, similarly to the first game.

We Were Here Too is a great homage to its predecessor, We Were Here, while also building on the best aspects of that game. The puzzles are more complex and require better communication, the graphics have clearly gotten better, and there's a way for both players to escape this time. While the tense melancholy tone of the first game still persists, We Were Here Too proves that Total Mayhem Games learn as they go and listen to their fans. Players of co-op puzzle games will certainly find themselves enjoying this game and the series as a whole.
